Chief Kaya, a dubstep/electronic music producer/DJ, is a client who I have worked with previously. He has commissioned me to design album artwork for his label Defy Culture, which can be viewed in the ‘Record Label Design’ section of this site.
There are multiple deliverables in this project, including social media collateral and an admat .psd file that is to be configured by different designers while still following the guidelines established.
For this project, he stemmed influence from Fyodor Dostoevsky for the title - Notes from the Underground Tour. For the imagery, he proposed a concept, “...notes being taken on a piece of paper, but to have music notes emerging from the paper.” He sent me visual inspiration, which led me to representing the words evolving into music notes, rather than them emerging off the page itself.
